Very moving. Indicates the futility and obscenity that war is. It is never so much the people who start such things as the politicians and the leaders for their own reasons.
I gather that the generals were furious about what happened between the soldiers but then they were safely well behind the lines with their own agenda and regarded the soldiers as mere cannon fodder with lives which were of no real importance!
