22nd Jan 2011 to Saalbach, Austria. Been years since I last went and I'm looking forward to it as there is a nice gentle long motorway run there for me to get my eye in again

Val d`Isere 12th Dec; counting the days. Les Carroz late Jan; driving out in the oil burning Legacy. Skiing is expensive enough without taking the Impreza!
I`m sure Frosty posts on Snowheads forum, don`t you Frosty ?

Booking first ever ski holiday abroad this weekend!

7 of us, some v good, some not so good (I'm in the latter category as only have a couple of seasons at Cairngorm behind me)

We're thinking of La Plann - anybody been there or know owt about it? Other suggestion to meet varying skill levels?

andy -- if you can ski the Caingorms --- you can ski anywhere!!

La Plagne -- some of the resort is a bit 'seventies' (ugly!) -- but good variety of skiing, which would suit a group of varing abilities

You could try Kitzbuehel in Austria, lovely spot, and if you can make it down the Hahnenkamm by the end of the holiday-you have cracked skiing completely!

Think I might leave the Hahnenkahm for a few years yet Les.

Is Kitzbuehel not quite a bit more pricey than typical French alps resorts?

Its a long time since I went there, we stayed in a pension which was quite reasonable, but the hotels would be pretty expensive I imagine.

My mother worked in a hotel there many years ago and her claim to fame was that she was asked to dance by the Duke of Windsor. He had an eye for the girls alright. The hotel is still there too!

I took a look at the Hahnenkamm and decided at my stage to stick to the bumpy bit at the end of the run which was difficult enough I found!

Lovely spot though.

Suberb if you can get there!

I booked my first ever ski trip abroad yesterday - To Tignes. Anybody been there? Was told that the skiing is great but the nightlife and look of the place isn't? (I'm ok with that).

There are 6 of us going - 2 "experts", me, just parallel and able to do red runs on a good day, plus the others, who are either a wee bit better or a wee bit worse than me. I figured we could create our own nightlife (half board, free wine included).

Was thinking about booking 5 x 3 hourly lessons with "Evolution 2". Of course, I'd like to ski with my pals as much as possible - would 2 lessons do or is it a case of "the more the merrier"? I'm told I don't lack bravado, but that I swing my arms around as I turn (lol).

Andy
