I was just wondering, on behalf of our kid, what do you have to do to be a camera man?
He's developed an interest in filming cars at trackdays and is gettin quite good now so I suggested he take it further, hey you could even get paid for watching motorsport, how cool would that be
I thought of maybe trying to sell a few vids, well orders to folk on the day ( at trackdays), I can see it being a bit arsey though, what do you guys think?
Cheers in advance

I think it could be a pretty good idea, i know of several 'still' photographers that attend bike and car track days selling photos off.
The only problem would be, it wouldnt be that much of a vid from a static spot on the track(specially if its somewhere like donno where the viewing is poo), how about any interested parties would hire him per session where he could also install stuff into there car for in car shots as well, then he takes it home to edit etc and they receive goods afterwards?
Just a thought.

Just a thought but the BBc are currently doing a so called "talent" recruitment at the moment, it might be worth checking there website which is http://www.bbc.co.uk/talent/
Also there is a college of IIRC Film and Drama in Beaconsfield which might be worth contacting for some more advice.

The cameramen I use have generally graduated from being camera assistants - that is 'cable bashing' when a guy runs around with a hand held.
The only way in is through steady progression and application - start with experience on a cheap cable shows or similar.
Really good cameramen soon get a good reputation and work a lot - producers stick with them. Min £225 a day.
If you want more info feel free to mail me.
