If you could go back in time......
Following on from the back to that day thread, If you could go back in time and kill Hitler do you think it would change the world for the better, or would some other raving **** still bugger up the planet?

If it were to happen things would be very different now. If WW2 hadn't of happened and the cold war following on from that I think we'd still be living in the dark ages with respect to technology.
The world might be a better place though. Who knows?

If I had to endure the changes, I wouldn't make any, but if I didn't (e.g. a different time stream was creasted that didn't affect mine) then I would be quite mischeivous. I would do things like persuade Hitler to leave the running of the war to his generals, or tell them things that would have given them an edge, but also tell the Allise things to counter that, see how bad it could have got etc.
Things may have been better if Hitler had not got in to power, but they could also have been worse. Best left alone.

It is an interesting thought. Germany was in a pretty poor state at the time and he seized his chance at the time.
There could well have been another man ready to step in and we know what the characters of the rest of the ***** were like. If he had Hitler's ability he could still have whipped up the anti semitism and ethnic cleansing ethic. Whether they would have still tried to seize control of Europe through militarism is another matter. They still seem to be at it too, in a different manner of course!

"Making History" by Stephen Fry is interestingly about this. The problem is you just don't know. There could have been another leader who would obviously make different decisions which would effect if not the ultimate outcome then the timings. And different people would have died effecting future events....
