Default Private Reg plates

if you buy privatr plates, and pay the transfer fee, what's left to do? looked on a webite which offered to do it all for you for a fee, or talk you though it for £1/min, which makes it sound difficult, but isn't it just a case of getting a new V5 once the new reg is in your name?

send off V5 and transfer docs to DVLA

wait a week or so, for the new tax disc to come in the post

put new plates on car with new tax disc and post old tax disc to dvla.

You should get a certificate of entitlement sent from the dvla to your address. Once you have this you can either post it to you DVLA local office and wait for the new tax disc to arrive or you can take it in person and get the tax disc there and then allowing you to put the plate on that day!! You'll need your MOT, log book and tax disc serial number too!! Its a lot easier than it sounds trust me..........

Also if buying off a dealer, check that DVLA don't still have the plate on their system first as its cheaper to buy direct. (some companys advertise plates that are still owned by the DVLA)

And don't forget to tell your insurance company the date you intend changing them over
