Default indigestion ?

I get an ache in my shoulder than then progresses to the middle of my chest .. the chest feel is more uncomfortable than anything and throwing up relieves it for a bit .. only lasts 20 minutes or so .. been the walk in centre and they said its indigestion ... checked my heart and such and it was ok ..

Anyone else back up shoulder pain with indigestion ?

pimmo, not wanting to undermine what the walk in place says , but with the stress you have been under lately, i would be contacting my gp and making an appointment. being sick to relieve indigestion is not a good sign. could be a possible ulcer. go get yourself checked to be sure.

A quick Google suggests that such pain could be associated with a gastric ulcer. As bigsinky says, get it checked out properly. I'd be inclined to have a full MOT on the ticker too

I've suffered from indigestion on and off for most of my adult life. Never had a shoulder ache with it, neither has it caused me to vomit unless significant quantities of alcohol were involved.

You're fcuked mate

Could be mild angina, quite a few folk in my family have it (think I've have had the odd minor attack - mild tightness pain in the chest that travels up to my jaw). IIRC basic heart ECGs look normal unless the person is actually suffering an attack at that very point in time.

What sort of walk in centre was it - Halfords or Kwik Fit

Should pain = indigestion - I'd be pointing to my stomach and saying that's where you get indigestion

As stated - sounds stress related - get yourself to a doctor if it persists

That's why you're not a doctor. Your stomach is higher than you think!

I had bad indigestion pains with pains through my back/shoulders and jaw some years back due to a gastric ulcer brought on by a Helicobacter infection.
Bloody agony at night and things like Zantac didn't do a thing.

It gave very similar symptoms to a heart problem but was found through a simple blood test.
Antibiotics and something to heal the ulcer sorted it out.

Pimmo, all I can say is if the symptoms are still there or get worse then go to a GP and not the walk-in centres.

Your symptoms do indeed sound similar to pimmo's.

He's been to see the NHS's finest and they fobbed him off.

Correct - I'm not a doctor - I'm equally not some retard in a walk in centre who doesn't seem to know wtf they're talking about.

If I met someone suffering with stomach pains and shoulder pains - my first guess would be they were preggers

Throwing up to alleviate stomach pains doesn't sound like indigestion to me - especially if it comes back again.

I'd be off to the docs ASAP.

I think you should certainly go and see your GP about it.

I would go and see a GP if you are worried, especially if this is not a one off. At least that way, if they are concerned they can refer you to a specialist.

It could be indigestion though as I've had pain sort of round the shoulder area into the chest (think the last time it happened was after taking anti inflammatories, which really aggravate my stomach/heartburn).

I've suffered from heartburn (reflux disease they believe) for years now and have had tons of tests done and the above is the diagnosis they have settled ont. I have to take tablets everyday to control it and even they sometimes aren't enough. A bad attack for me can be as bad as your symptoms or it can just be quite severe heartburn and oddly for me, being sick does give some short term relief.

One strange thing that has cropped up with my problems that the gastro consultant can't work out is why when I was put onto steroids for another issue earlier this year, the reflux almost completely went away when steroids would normally make it worse.

Its a bit like going to the dentist, nobody really likes going but if you want to stay healthy, sometimes you gotta go.

If your car was fecked you'd take it to a garage, so you shouldn't think twice about seeing your doc for a 2nd opinion over something that could be potentially serious.

Chances are it is perhaps trapped wind that's causing the shoulder pain and due to stress you are adding secondary anxiety to the pain and in turn making yourself sick, but I'd want to make damned sure if I were you.

Go see another doc if this continues.

Ps. You should chew every mouthful of food until it's the consistency if apple purée to give your digestive system a chance to process. This will reduce the chances of indigestion.

Try apple cider vinegar . It apparently restores the stomachs acidity to its correct Ph. It seems a contradiction to take acid for acid indigestion nut it works .
Don't take it neat - cut with water.

If I had not gone to the doctor when I had pains I would be long gone by now. If you go and get a proper diagnosis then you will know for sure where you stand.

This is what I have!

I get bad acid reflux into my assophagus (sp) which burns like mad. I used to drink gaviscon all the time.

Wheat sets it off more than anything else so I was originally told it was a wheat allergy but it carried on with other or any foods. Then its an ulcer so I had a magic eye down my throat (not nice) and the lady said its a hiatus hernia - the opening to the stomach doesn't close properly or something.

However, a few people who say they have the same thing also have lumps in the top of their chest where the stomach comes through the opening a bit - mine doesn't do this.

I take 15mg Lansoprazol a day and I don't get any pain.

I had acid reflux too. It was pretty painful when it came on, I take Omeprazole daily and it has stopped it completely.

Oesophagus.

There's a sliding or rolling hiatus hernia. My brother has a sliding one.

i have had an indegestion pain once or twice, started off as a kind of bloating induced air pocket or something caused a sharp pain in what felt was the back of my lung, the pain stayed there for a good week or so gradually easing, like as if something was stretched or pulled.............i am also a chronic sufferer of acid reflux and take 30mg Lansoprozole daily, completely cures it.

I get indigestion type pain in my back between shoulder blades when my lung collapses - spontaneous pneumothorax. It only happens a little bit these days but first time was total collapse and painful. Not had the sickness though and you would also be breathless if it was lungs.

What you are talking about is called 'referred shoulder tip pain'

I won't bore you with the details but because of the way nerves innervate your body you can get pain in one region of the body when it's actually another part that's affected.

Gastritis is a fairly common cause of shoulder tip pain (as is gallstones). The fact that you have to belch to make yourself feel better also points in this direction. Your pain does not sound cardiac in nature (from what you have stated)

My advice would be to avoid alcohol, caffeine and **** and try simple measures like Gaviscon and Ranitidine (both available over the counter).

If that doesn't work then you need a proton pump inhibitor (ie Lansoprazole, Omeprazole etc)

If that doesn't work then a gastroscopy (camera into your tummy) and perhaps 'triple therapy' for H Pylori infection.

I tend to be ok day to day and it can be brought on if I move after eating .. its more an uncomfortable ache than a pain .. but its horrible..

Once or twice I've got a stabbing pain when I breath in deeply .. I physically cant take a full breath whilst its there its that bad .. only lasts 5 minutes or so .. and I remember getting it when i was younger .. like a stitch ..

At the moment I can feel like a discomfort in the centre of my chest like right down the middle .. not bad but not nice .. Gaviscon does seem to help ..

It is amazing what a GP can do to stop such troubles if you let them try.
