Just been watching a wasp and a spider fighting to the death on the spider's web outside my first-floor office window. It was like a scaled-down version of King Kong vs. Godzilla. Eventually the wasp chewed through enough of the spider's legs to prise it off the web and they both tumbled down to the concrete below in a death embrace. I think the spider bit off a bit more than he could chew that time, so-to-speak.
Gripping stuff.

The spider had a neighbour too. This bruiser, but he picks on smaller flies.

When I was a kid I remember being absolutely amazed when I put a zebra jumping spider and common house spider in the same tub. The little jumping spider, despite being about 4 to 5 times smaller, was all over the giant house spider, stalking it before jumping on it and biting it to death. Try as it might, the house spider couldn't do anything. Tried it with wasps, bluebottles, garden spider, the zebra jumping spider came out on top on with all of them.

How about the ultimate wasp vs spider battle, Hawk wasp vs tarantula !

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarantula_hawk
wouldn't like to get stung by one of those - didn't even know there was a scale 'Schmidt pain index' for how painful stings are !
