Docufilm-The Cove
Have had this on the sky+ for a while and have just watched it-saddening stuff indeed.
Basically,it centres around Taijia,a small fishing cove in Japan, that each september, captures whales and dolphins for export throughout the world for sealife centres and such like. However, the majority(tens of thousands)of predominantly dolphins captured are slaughtered en mass in the most horrific way for the domestic market.
Its quite a spooky film as Taiijia on the surface, looks like its massively into dolphin/whale welfare, but behind the scenes,in a secret cove is this mass slaughter that is never seen by the generaal public and is fiercely guarded.
The main force behind the film is Ric O'Barry who was the trainer for the 60's programme flipper and who,to a certain degree, turned a blind eye to the realities.
Fascinating stuff-especially when a team of free divers, extreme sports people and sfx/camera people from industrial light and magic get involved to secretly film what really goes on.
I eat meat with the best of them, know the realities of what it entails, and i'm not completely anti blood sport, but this still stirs you.
The film won an Oscar too.Not expecting any replies, just throwing it out as its an interesting watch

And maybe those are the reasons why people should watch it.made me have mixed feelings towards Japanese people-which,of course is wrong as this is only a minority, with lots of other cultures playing their part. That is all!

Sometimes, the Japanese make the Spanish look like fluffy bunny huggers.
However, the Chinese with their live dog skinning are pretty hard to beat...
