Default Winter 2010/2011 Predictions ?

Keep hearing "Day After Tomorrow" type predictions for the coming winter, reasons cited being,

Sunspot Activity (Lack of)

BP Gulf of Mexico spill, quelling an already weak Gulf Stream

Icelandic Volcanic dust in the atmosphere

We are "due" a bad winter

Just thought I would get in before Pete...

What do you reckon ?

Along with others who have rear-wheel drive cars with fat rear tyres I'm hoping for... another snowy one!!! Low-speed powerslides everywhere was great fun!

I expect another freezing cold winter with plenty of natural ice skating possibilities again. This really will put the final nail in the global warming lie. Except it's called Global Climate Disruption these days. So a cold winter would be undeniable proof of catastrophic global warming.

Well I guess its going to be wet and cold.
Possibly some snow but not as much as last year.
If it does snow I will use my 4x4 just like I did last year and have great fun watching people struggle up the hill where I live.

Really? Does the Gulf Stream affect the sea too, thought it was air currents?

I didn't find the scooby 4x4 all that good in snow personally.... got stuck in my car park with all four spinning... my old 2 wheel toyota never did!!! However I was very cautious and Paranoid about damaging the car and other peoples driving left alot to be desired.... + I live on a very very steep hill thats not fun going down in snow.... The first day of snow left 20 or so vehicles abandoned, of which probably half were damaged by foolhardy idiots sliding back down the hill.... the day after tommorrow was not good for them ..
My stunt skis should be fun again ...

I was out of the country last winter so unfortunately missed it. It's been along time since I've seen proper snow and ice and part of me hopes to see it this year although I know after a few days it will be annoying.

Having said that no doubt this winter will be especially mild given everyone is now stocking up on winter tyres, snow shovels etc etc. Sods law!

I've got my Impreza so should be fun to drive about.

Chap on the Beeb this morning was talking about solar flares. They happen all the time but if we got a big one like the one that hit the earth 150 years ago then the world's electric grid systems would be destroyed. Now that is a bit of a horrendous scenario!

As ever, no one can really say with real accuracy. The weather will always do its own thing.

It will be affected by the things you mention of course but I doubt it is possible to accurately forecast to what kind of extent. The sunspot activity although still on the low side has at least started to appear again now.

I shall be fatalistic and sit back and wait to see what actually happens!

I predict that winter 2010 will be a bit colder than summer 2010. It's called ohmygoditsclimatechangeweareallgoingtodie.

What global pandemic's going to wipe us all out again this winter then? Apparently Swine Flu killed about 50 people in the UK during the past year. That's about the same number as those killed each year by a falling feather.

I'm sure the Daily Mail will dream up some new killer disease that will decimate the population.

We've had swine flu and bird flu, so this year's killer could be the crippling and incurable "man flu". Either way very few of us will still be around in 12 months time (probably).

I think it will be sunny, cloudy, showery, rainy, windy, calm, snowy, frosty, humid, balmy and generally weathery.

A blip?

I had a blip today when the sun came out, its chucking it down with snow again.

Every single day for about 8 or 9 days, and the 5 day forecast now says it's staying.

The media keep harping on about this cold 'snap'!

How does a 'snap' last 10 days?
