Coalition shelves plan for inquiry into energy firms - The Independent
The coalition government has dropped plans for an independent inquiry into the energy industry. Before the election, both the Tories and Lib Dems had demanded a Competition Commission inquiry into the industry and criticised Labour for failing to tackle rising prices charged by the Big Six energy providers - British Gas, EDF, Eon, npower, Scottish & Southern and Scottish Power - amid claims of profiteering. But the Department of Energy confirmed that it had no plans to refer the industry to the Commission at present.
