Oh those funny quaint old traditions.

How can firing an automatic weapon be 'traditional'
How long have they been around & 'available' in these areas?

I've fired a live ak47 on a stag doo in Latvia, they do kick a little and also go off wildly to the right!

I remember that dreadful old sten gun that we had to practice with every year. Talk about kicking off, everyone stood well back when someone was firing it just in case of a big swing!
We were told that like the Browning pistol we also had to fire, if you were wearing a heavy great coat you were unlikely to come to much harm if someone fired at you anyway!

I expect the groom must feel really bad about himself.
I wonder if he has a self-loathing mechanism?
