Default Lighting/wiring for front drive/garden.

I've finally had my front drive and fencing done so it no longer looks like gypsies live in my house

I need to add a little lighting to finish it off. There are two brick lights for the entrance and then I wanted a number of subtle lights in the flowerbeds etc.

When the drive was done they lay armoured cable all around these areas and then left one end right by the house (also near fusebox) so it could be drilled through by a sparky.

I popped into B&Q today many of their lights are sold with a three step process, ie 1) Buy as many lights as you want and then add up the total wattage 2) Buy appropriate transformer for that wattage 3) Buy appropriate amount of connecting cable.

Thing is I obviously have cable already run around. Is there any reason why I can't buy the lights and transformer from B&Q and just use my own cable? Obviously I will get a sparky to do the connecting but just wanted to know what I should be looking to buy.

Also is there any advantage to having ones with LEDs in them or is it just an aesthetic thing?

Thanks

LED's will in theory last longer, run cooler and give off a better light. It would also reduce the wattagr (power) consumed. Without Stating which size, type of SWA its hard to say about cable choice.

You'd need to rival Blackpool Tower to worry any decent armoured cable...

IMHO

A mate of mine is an electrician obsessed with artistic creative indoor and outdoor lighting and apparently outdoor remote control units to control your lights are now quite cheap, though I'm not sure this has much to do with your initial question.

Remote lights would be great inside and I'll get them if I ever build my dedicated home cinema room but for the outside just a normal switch with timer function would be fine
