Well having 5 cats which include a lovely maine coon, our only pedigree cat that we've ever had, all the rest have been rescue cats. However, we've always had our yard enclosed so that our cats cannot get out and give grief for our neighbours as not everyone likes cats and i certainly wouldn't want anyone harming any of our pets.

I don't know the layout/habitat of where your problem is (guessing its somewhere near water though...lol) but i do know that you can buy a plant called "scaredy cat" which gives out a nasty scent that the cats really don't like. My uncle has this in his garden due to the neighbours' cats continually digging up his plants and says that this plant definately works.

Holly - it stays sharp enough after the leaves go brown and means you don't have to put all manner of chemicals/sonic repellant devices around your garden.

You can get an ultrasonic unit that will do the job although it requires 240v if that is avaliable on a boat.

also there are pellets like a jelly which beads when poured out, it is strong citrus which cats hate, this last for ages and smells quite nice.

It is real important to get rid of the scent/marking smells already there get a scent remover from a pet shop or garden centre the pellets and ultrasonic units are avalible from most pet shops and garden centres.

The smell is a real ****** to get out if you can soak the covers in a mild bleach/water solution for a short time then flush thoroughly with water, you could try the scent removel spray but i recon bleach is the best bet.

I have tried everything, I also phoned the local safari park for some real lion dung and they will not sell it!!!! Incase of any infections!!!! Anyway apart from plants/sprays/fence spikes/sonic scarer/jeyes fluid in fact all the above plus more. The best item i have found is SILENT ROAR its pellets soaked in real lion essence, you have to spread it around with a glove on (which comes in the box) beceause if the cats smell human scent on it, it wont work and you also have to top it up every 3xweeks. I paid £7.50 per box for it from ebay give it a go!!

Going back a few years but didn't someone on here buy a sonic repellant only to find out later that the offending cat was deaf?

Try scattering a few old fashioned moth ***** around the garden, if you can still get them.

Cats hate the smell of camphor.
