It was great to see that England fans were very well behaved in South Africa for this tournament.
As one who has been quite vocal about the behaviour of England fans in the past, I'm delighted to see none of that this time around.
Whether that was due to effective screening, policing, or good behaviour generally, I'm happy to give the benefit of the doubt and say a big well done

Have to say I agree with the OP. As a very vocal critic of the game's hooligan element I feared the worst after Sunday's defeat, but was pleasantly surprised to find my fears were unfounded.

Probably the cost of getting out there prohibited the more volatile "fans" getting out there. It was the same with the Japan And Korean tournament in 2002.

12hour flight is a bit of a killer. And I bet the flight tickets were not cheap not to mention match tickets.
Plus, our lot are really a bunch of wusses when put in a environment that is somewhat less tolerant than our own. I very much doubt SA police takes any s**t from anyone. Remember this was a country that has 20,000 murders a year and at one point was declared as the rape capital of the world.
A would-be rioter is going to think twice about mouthing off; before a) being bludgeoned by a policeman or b) being stabbed/shot by a local.
Have to give credit to SA, either they managed to keep the media away from any problems or they have indeed kept it under control. The problems I saw in big cities within SA when I visted were not from people from SA itself, but via the immigrants from surrounding countries that flooded in.

The team must have had one of the lowest yellow card counts, and not just because of how few games they played Note that at the end of the first half against Germany there was no added time. That sets a good example.
