Default Is it legal to shoot sea gulls?

We have a seagull that is nesting on our roof which has been annoying us for some time, ripping bags open etc. Lately however the bloomin thing is getting bolder and has started attacking anyone who ventures into the back garden including my son.
I have my Dads 22 air rifle in the loft which I used to be a crack shot on, and I'm fairly sure I could headshot the little blighter, but is it legal to do so? I have trawled the net and there are many contradicting answers. Maybe some of the plod on here will know the answer

They're illegal to shoot, if you do and get caught you'll be in the shoite, even though they are annoying

maximum 6 months in prison or a 5k- 20k fine depending on the charge not to mention any firearms law such as discharge of a firearm in a public place think you would be better off calling the council's pest officer

Shoot the little Bar-Steward!!!!!i believe (so i been told) they are supposedly protected by her Maj the Queen......lets be honest is she gonna miss a little ****e Hawk??then again u may feel the wrath of her on here if you do so and she owns a Scooby!!! personally .22 Eley Wasp(pellet) to the head.....problem solved!
As regards to rats......they are a known pest, they are proven to carry and spread Weales disease (sometimes deadly) so if you see any of them when ya stalking ya Seagull id give tham a bit of lead too!!!!

Apparently local councils don`t `do birds`. A mate of mine has a Jackdaw or a Crow (not sure which) which keeps `headbutting` his windows, attacking car mirrors and actually causing damage but the local council don`t wanna know!!!

Go on....you'll get in the Daily Mail if you test it in court.

Doesn't the Queen prefer protecting a dandy swan to a robbing seagull? Or is she a bit rough round the edges?

1. Dip sponge in gravy

2. Bake in oven so it shrinks

3. Cut into small chunks and feed to seagulls

4. Expands in stomach so they can't eat

Just shoot it rather than torture it.

That's fair enough, but as said unless they do an autopsy you won't get big fines or even a prison sentence the above way. If it's a question of morals then just leave it be as there is a reason it's illegal.

You could always lace bread with baking soda and then feed it, not pretty when they explode but a nice quick death if that's what you're after

They're *******s when they've got eggs or young - they will regularly divebomb you and crap on your head if they feel you're near their nest.

I recommend getting a panther.
