Benefit cheats should be "encouraged" to return to work. Reducing their benefits will help focus them.

It's a start I guess, maybe food vouchers instead of cash as well and ripping off all those satellite dishes that have been put up without permission and sold for scrap.
And why are they so against cutting foreign aid

Thumbs up

Being fat and unable to walk or drinking yourself stupid and calling it an illness is not an disability it is a life choice so let those who choose this fund it themsleves. Incapacity benefit is a great idea and hopefully helps a lot of genuinely disabled people - as with most benefits and the uk it is being abused by the lazy and lifestyle unemployed as another handout to fund thier existence - about time something was done.

Shame NL only talked about sorting such things during thier 12 year reign and ruin, so far the con-dim's seem to be doing it!

You'll just get a secondary market with maybe a 10-15% discount on face value...

Because they think it wins votes and prevents them from looking like "nasty" Tories

Do you honestly think there are over 2 million people of working age who are too sick to work?

Do you remember that cooking program from a few year's ago, 'can't cook won't cook', the dole/benifits have a similar one, 'can't work, won't work', the words can't and won't being the give away.

There was a show like this recently, took groups of long term unemployed who apparently wanted to work and in most cases it was ust talk, either no going to interviews, not taking obs deemed below them or doing the job for a few days then going 'sick' - this is what needs tackling - attitudes and getting off asses and into work.

Yup, the softy softy approach clearly isn't doing us any favours, We have a fresh Government in and now is the time to deal with these scumbags.

Agreed out of the 6 or so in each group usually 2 would succeed and stick with it and i guess this is probably reflects throughout the unemployed of this country.

I also hope this government has the nuts to deal with this, not ust because of the financial mess and the saving needed but because it is the right thing to do!

Long term dole scroungers should be forced to work for their money, get the ***** out sweeping the streets or picking up litter or at least doing something for the local council all of whom are going to be hit with big budget cuts.

I am in a pretty unique position in that at one stage in my career i was a fraud investigator for the dole. I was also responsible for setting up an intelligence unit so had some insight into the facts and figures. the unit was staffed with investigators and admin staff capable of detecting about £15M of benefit fraud in Northern Ireland. the conservative estimate for fraud in Northern Ireland at that stage was about £125M. that was 15 years ago, so when you ask do you think there are 2m sick in the uk, most definately yes. Put it this way the live caseload for incap in NI is around 10% of the population circa 125,000 people, so i would expect there to be at least 2 million in the UK
