Who has a Nespresso Machine?
Ive got a bog standard Krups espresso machine and grinder and played around with them for ages but very rarely get a decent coffee out of it as very inconsistent. Also messy to make more than one. In the past Ive been looking at a bean 2 cup machine but your looking at £500 minimum and Ive read plenty of horror stories with the reliability and subsequent customer service of both Krups & Gaggia machines even with pricey extended warranties. Seems to me these are cut down industrial machines made with inferior materials and just not cut out for the job.
On the flipside I hear more and more praise for these Nespresso machines especially in reference to the quality of the coffee they product. Ive yet to taste a coffee from one but will do so on my next trip into town.
So has anyone got one or had coffee from them and what do you think? The main downside people quote in reviews are the price of pods at 30p ish but to me that seems perfectly reasonable.
Cheers
Simon

Hmmm, not sure if this post is going to be helpful to you, but my local supermarket has lots of jars of instant coffee that always provide a consistent taste. Servicing is not an issue, extended warranties are free, and its not messy either

If you're in to coffee for the long haul & drink one a day - look at the delonghi magnifica ESAM4200S.
http://www.kitchenscience.co.uk/smal...esam4200s.html
I have one - and it's amazing.
Being a bean to cup machine - there is no fuss & very little mess.
The extra cost of the machine pays for it's self very quickly due to the bean costs.
I get a 2kg of half decent Italian stuff for a tenner - this lasts me about 2 months.

Ive had a krups nespresso for about five years now, totally reliable and the coffee is really rather nice. sure you'll get the purist who will insist that the only way to get a good cup of coffee is to use beans crushed between the thighs of a Guatemalan virgin and brewed on a messy stove top contraption( and they are, ive got one gathering dust in the cupboard).. however for me, lifes too short..
get into selfridges, the nespresso depts downstairs and they'll make you up a few cups to try

Wife bought me a Krupps Dolce Gusto machine for christmas and it doesn't really make nice coffee. In fact it makes me feel a bit sick after a couple of cups. Its also not strong enough. Can't say too much because she bought it for me etc etc.
Went to a client once who had just bought a Nespresso machine and it was very good. Proper good strong coffee.

I am quite happy with Nescafe Decaff instant coffee, and I have also tried good old Camp coffee again which we used to drink years ago and find that is just as good. All you need is a kettle for the water!

I've had that machine for 9 months or so now and I like it.
I myself favour cafe lungo - espresso pods are OK and the new americano pods aren't bad.

I love my Dolce Gusto (xmas present from the wife too!).
Edd, are you using the unsweetened latte's? I found the sweetened ones far to sickly sweet although no where near as bad as 'instant' latte's.
The unsweetened ones are far nicer.
My everyday coffee is the Americano pods as they had an offer on those recently so I've got boxes of them
As Urban said, the Lungo ones are tasty as well.
My wife doesn't drink coffee but loves the Chocochio pods.

My daughter hammers the choco ones.
I think its because the nespresso machine I tried was really good and I don't feel the Dolce Gusto is quite there. I'm not a coffee snob by any means (on the tesco instant right now) but I was impressed by how nearly an hour later I was still buzzing from the Nespresso

Well the more I read the more praise I hear. Apparently even Heston Blumenthal serves nespresso at the Fat Duck
Typical as it seems nespresso just ended a promotion for a £40 worth of capsules free with a new machine.

We've had this one for well over a year;
http://www.google.co.uk/products/cat...ed=0CBYQ8wIwAA#
Love it, have gone through most of the capsules and found about 5 flavours that we really like.
It's quick, it's clean, it's easy, and it tastes great.
The milk frother/heater is a good addition, and I use it when making coffee for me and the wife, but it does have negatives;
- It's difficult to clean the frother, not dishwasher safe
- The bottom of the frother where it heats the milk can burn if you do not clean it well (we've changed one because it got too bad and couldn't get rid of black burn on the bottom)
If I am just having a coffee on my own I nuke the milk in the microwave.
All in all, I love the Nespresso machines, great taste!

I have a Tassimo machine and love it! I have had a great cuppa every time but it does cost me an arm and a leg to run.
Starbucks house blend is a winner every time! £1.89 for 6!

We have tried the Tassimo ones and found the machines highly unreliable and stupidly small cups of coffee. The wife bought the Nespresso one last year and whilst we still have it it is hardly used. Again far too small amounts of coffee and you have to buy the pods off the website instead of just being able to get them with the shopping.
I now stick with my large cup of Kenco, either Columbian or Rich.

Yes, but there is small and strong coffee and there is a waste of bloody time! Oh and to add that the Nespresso capsules aren't even that strong hence I found them a waste of time/money. If you want a proper Espresso go to a coffee house.

Instant coffee.... double yeeeuch!!
Nespresso.... yeeuch!!
If you're on a budget, and enjoy coffee then get yourself a starter espresso machine and a reasonable small burr grinder.
Then use freshly roasted beans... which makes ALL the difference.
Gaggia Classic - £240
Iberital MC2 grinder - about £100
Money well spent, and much better than a bean-to-cup (super auto) or any Nespresso / pod type contraption.
All IMHO of course...

Having just purchased a nespresso machine I can comment on them rather than just saying everything but bean to cup machines are rubbish!
I bought the magimix with the milk frother for £170 with £40 in credit it makes excellent latte which is what I want it for, the person above that said the coffee is not strong is talking absolute rubbish I had an espresso today that was so strong it made me dizzy!
Also many hotels and restaurants do use nespresso machines if you search online or look behind bars you will see them as I did, that's one of the things that made my mine up on what to buy.
The pods are 27p each but I get a perfect drink everytime with out too much faffing about.
