Default Dune - The Movie 1984

Possiblely the worst and gheyest novel adaptation ever!

How can such a good book be turned into such a bad film? some odd casting too!

I loved it - great film.

Much, and unfairly in my opinion, maligned!

Have you read the book Trout?

I was just reading that they are making a new version of the film. Hopefully one will tickle my fancy!

I think Dune would be great made by the director who did the Dark Knight. It is a great story.

Yes, I have read the Dune books.

Yup, the one and only film i have even fallen asleep during - whilst in the cinema!

Christine is a stinker of a film considering how good the book is but Dune really takes the win over it.

Yup, I agree, complete gobbledegook film of a very good storyline.
It's not as if they've even tried to follow the story accurately. When I first saw it on video I was thoroughly disappointed with it.

The way the characters have to stop and look thoughtful whilst they narrate their thoughts...

There is also a mini-series of Dune which is certainly worth checking out. There is also a follow-on called Children Of Dune comprising of Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. Again it's rather good.

He who controls the Spice controls the Universe!

Great film IMO. One of my favorite of all time. Its very kitsch so I can understand why many don't like it. Didn't know they were doing a remake.

Its development was almost as complicated as the film itself.

The book is good to read to get an idea of some of the oddments in the film. Interesting to learn how the Baron first became diseased and Pauls mothers heritage.

The book House Harkonnen is good to learn the history of Gurney Halleck (Patrick Stewarts character)

I cannot recall if the film mentions Jessica's family, I know the mini-series does (might only be COD, not sure, been a while since I watched it). It does add something to the story when you know the details.

Don't think it does... I have it on DVD somewhere. I really do love it though, it's massively camp and overblown and ace

Wormtongue in LoTR will always be Mentat Pieter de Vries for me... "It is by the juice of saphoo that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning"

I have the film and the mini-series.

It is because of the film that I read the books so I ended up enjoying both.
