How do you join two countries that drive on different sides of the road?

I was talking to someone recently about the day in the 1960s when Sweden switched from driving on the left to driving on the right. They just did it overnight.
According to wikipedia, all traffic was banned between 1:00a.m and 6:00a.m on the day of the change. If you did happen to be on the road, you had to come to a complete stop at 4:50a.m, then carefully change to the other side of the road before being allowed to drive off again at 5:00a.m. That would have been brilliant to watch
