Plastic bags to be put over Birmingham 'terror cameras'
Here is a news item to stir the SN masses
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/b...m/10337961.stm
Bags are to be put over dozens of surveillance cameras in parts of Birmingham with large Muslim populations, after local objections.

They are turning loads of cameras off. We have at least two car parks which are now no longer monitored and the local press were proud to announce it – so the local public avoid it like the plague and any out of town folks who use it come back to a damaged car.
Most ATM machines are the same – due to a public outcry about being monitored when the use them. So card scamming is now through the roof.
But hey, at least we are moving away from the ‘big brother’ society and freedom for all

[QUOTE=Felix.;9452740]There are 16 of us per shift and there must be atleast 50 car parks in the town[/QUOTE
Do we really need to be this concerned about car-park crime?
I don't wish to sound rude, but is I was a police officer, I would like to think of myself as something more than a car park attendant with a licence to kill.

Cameras are good when they are used in the right way. I can understand people not wanting to be filmed going into and out of their own homes. However, when it comes to car parks and town centres I don't really see any issues in using lots of cameras.

We'll having worked in Birmingham I would say that its a sh!thole in general
I also spend an unfortunate period of time working in Coventry and that was nearly as bad
I'll tell you a story
I got a call from a customer one day - saying that they couldn't access the system blah blah
She said she was working away and then nothing.
I talked her through some steps and came to the conclusion that the server was offline and asked them to go check it.
**** - it was off line alright , some theiving ****** had come in and stolen the thing in broad daylight
They were caught on CCTV - 3 lads of asian descent

I live in Birmingham and I say keep the cameras.
as said before. if they're law abiding citizens then they shouldnt be bothered about the cameras.
I know the area where the cameras are and I avoid the area. If i need to go that direction I drive round the area adding an extra 15 mins plus to my drive

Probably they've decided its better the cameras are turned off because of fear of offending the minorities rather than admit that keeping 218 CCTV cameras running is a bit expensive for a bankrupt council?
