Default Paypal charges

I searched "Paypal" but didn't find the answer I wanted, so:

Some chap might be paying £2500 into my Paypal account through his credit card.
Any idea if I'm going to be charged anything and if so, how much (%?)

Does it make any difference if it's paid in as a "gift?"

Anyone know for certain?

i believe you pay a percentage for any type of payment apart from those made as "gift" if you are going to be stung for the payment make sure they pay the charges.

I have sold things on ebay for £25 with free p&p and when the money has been paid into my account there was £23.95. Maybe they will take £105?

they charge 4% on transactions also i think they have a charge for transferring small amounts to your account... if he sends it as a 'gift' he will incur the charge his end so you don't get charges your end

http://www.rolbe.com/paypal.htm

This will work out paypal fees for you.

You may want to read this too. IMO unless you know the dude very well theres no way I'd take £2500 through a credit card - your better off him doing a cash transfer from the card to your bank account.

Assuming you don’t know the person - be VERY careful............. paypal can take the money back from you too, should the person sending it to you make up some bull ****e story etc.

my mate last week got done out of £2200. sold car, payment via paypal, they collected car, stole someones identity, filled in log bog with other guys details, then the real person realised money been taken from acc and paypal put it bk in. but car had gone. now its been found totalled. paypal dont wanna know, nor does insurance.

make sure paymet goes into ur bank before letting anything go, paypal wont cover sellers selling cars via payal payments.

Good practice but even if you've taken the money from your paypal account, paypal will chase you for the amount if the credit card company approves the chargeback.

£2500 for a car, buyer says the car is knackered and asks credit card to do a chargeback, paypal give the money back to the buyer, your left without a car or money and when you approach paypal they will not want to know.

Most cards companies will allow transfers from the card account to a bank account. Get the money moved into your own account that way. Then if a chargeback does occur your bank might be more willing to help you than paypal - although even then you may not get much help from the bank.
