Default Virgin media - does the rain slow it down?

Anyone experiencing speed issues with VM at the moment? The last few days have been really bad. I did a speed test, download seemed fine but upload was 0.5mb

Apart from this I can't seem to access my emails. I get as far as signing in then the thing just times out.
As for watching youtube videos I feel like I'm on dial-up again!

antc

I was being sarcastic about the rain.

Not checked if maintenance is occuring no. What I'm finding is I can access this site, pistonheads and a few others fine. Youtube is not playing videos and any site with several "layers" to them are getting stuck as I drill into them

sorry the sarcasm didn't come across in text, and going by some questions on here it wouldn't surprise me

My Virgin is running fine, daft question sometime my speeds will drop normally a power cycle on the router and modem clear the issue up.

It is lack of rain that will slow your speed down, it is because the Net Bots than run from server to server can suffer dehydration, it is the excessive loss of body water used to cool there legs (8 of them) that result in a decrease in speed, Some times Virgin release more Net Bots in to the lines in such conditions which can help.

For instance, it's why Africa do not have Fiber Optic BB, Net Bots just don't like to work in them conditions, some say it's cruel also.

I find that my speeds varies for no apparent reason, probably the numbers using the Net, and I also lose the DSL line at times once again for no rhyme or reason.

I still can't access emails and I'm expecting an important one

Internet sites such as Scoobynet, Pistonheads, my banks and other forums are all ok as normal.
Whereas Youtube, Amazon etc only let me into the front page. Try going further in and it searches for ever and eventually just times out.
Wish I knew where the problem lies!

May pop into local Virginmedia show this afternoon. I can't be done with phoning up as it takes that long to get through the menus, to finally speak to an operator etc and most don't know what they are on about. I have no patience at all using that route.

Nick

Yes they will throttle back your speed if you are deemed to be using excessively.
It is p*ssing me off so much that I am going over to the 50Mbit service.

I cancelled the VM service then had to come crawling back after experiencing the full on uselessness of SKY installers ( they decided they needed a special height team to install a dish on the chimney stack of a two storey house and then were unable to give a date when broadband would be installed, probably 2-3 weeks after )
