I am planning a trip to watch the germany rally in august, looking for some tips off people who have been before. Going in a motorhome and planning to sleep on the stages as in wales. Went to portugal rally a couple of years ago and tickets were a waste off time, no need to buy them, do we need to buy tickets for this one? Do they open the stage parking the night before?

Any experiences good or bad would be helpful.

Been three times, Absolutely awesome experience everytime!

They've always seemed strict on the stage passes, we have always had to show them.

Can't halp with the motorhome bit as we've always stayed in Trier itself in close walking distance to Parc Ferme and all the bars!

I've been every year except one and it's a great rally. We always stay in Trier where everything is based as it's just a short (fast ) blast down the autobahn to get to the stages. A lot of the car parks are in fields, it's quite a lot different to Wales in that respect but there always seem to be a few campers in the larger car parks so I guess they're open the night before. Passes are generally a must and are usually stupidly cheap

The Germany stages are in vineyards and on military land with just a few on the tarmac public roads and it's usually easy to park. My advice would be to stay in a hotel in Trier which is a fabulous but smallish city with a huge pedestrianised centre filled with bars and restaurants. The autobahn is 10 minutes from the centre (20 in rush hour) and none of the stages are set far away from a motorway. Parc Fermé is in the town centre and the service park is on the outskirts of town across the river from the centre.

Generally when I go to a rally I stay out of town near the stages but make the exception for Germany as Trier is such a nice place. I'm already booked

well, don't forget, there isn't any speed limit on German Autobahnen 8)
I wanna go there, that's for sure, but I haven't made a plan yet.

But the autobahn isn't speed limit free, only some parts are de-restricted, you can't just give it your all anywhere. There are only certain parts near Trier that are de-restricted. Look for the grey signs with the speed crossed out, they indicate the end of the speed restricted area.

Well explained, but in my opinion there aren't that much speed limits, are there?

It's likely that I visit the rally, may help you with finding hostels or camping places and getting them contacted in case they don't speak English.

And of course doin' a subaru gathering :P

Wasn't there before, but I heard you have to buy those tickets and a bus takes you to every stage. Don't know if it's true?!?

If you want a quick snack, don't miss out on the Bratwurst stalls. Plenty of German mustard-can't beat it!
