Default Flappies!

So who still uses a flappy/floppy?

Apparently they still sell at the rate of 100,000s per month and Sony's best selling peripheral is a floppy disk reader!!!

I mean you couldn't even get one photo onto a floppy. And never mind that, there isn't an App for that either!!!

Blame Steve http://www.tuaw.com/2010/04/28/the-f...elped-kill-it/

When we stopped using Floppy disks at Dr Solomon's - UK Antivirus Company - we were shipping just short of 1,000,000 a month.

Maybe retro computing enthusiasts? I went out and bought a Commodore Amiga A1200 last year, and noticed that a lot of stuff you get for them are still on 3 1/2 inch floppies.

If I want to do a clean slate of XP onto a RAIDed drive array (or SCSI), I need to the put disk controller driver on a floppy disk so that the XP installer can read the hard drives (XP SP0 installer has no option to read anything except drive A:/ ).

(in English: I still need them if I want to install windows XP on a fancy computer ).

CD-RWs never really worked/integrated as well as floppys disks. It took until Vista to get proper native out-the-box support.

Last time I upgraded my computer there was no provision on the motherboard for a floppy. Bit of a nuisance at times.

Floppies are really old and slow.....but for some reason being without them makes me feel a little naked My laptop is the first machine I have ever had that does not have a floppy drive. Low and behold it was only recently that I needed one, so I now have a USB external floppy drive

What staggers me is the price of the disks I'm so glad I still have a few unused packs lying around, bought when they were about 5p per disk.

Not quite relevant

But I remember many many years ago having a 5.25" drive for my C64
I remember being able to cut a little notch on the opposite side of the disc and flipping it over so you could use both sides!
