What would you pay to own a F1 car?
£45,000.00 ?
Jordan Honda F1 Car
And that's just for the chasis...
Still, if I had a spare £100k to get it running that would be an awesome trackday toy as appose to other super-cars....

hi
great idea itself, but... it's horrific expensive to run it on a track... think of breaks, tyres, engine (also missing), fuel and so on
I'd rather make a replica with a self built chassis and a supercharged V8 or any other large engine.
cheers
Nico

Ferrari have been known to sell their ex works cars. One of the recent era cars (F399??) ended up as junk at Leguna Seca after the driver ran wide and the car broke in half at the base of the drivers seat... Federico Kroymans was the owner / driver - he is very big in the Ferrari circles in Europe...
Driver walked away but it was a bad shunt and the car (at a reported cost of £1m) was badly damaged. http://www.skippyforums.com/forums/a...4&d=1094454001
FWIW, the drivers get first dibs on the cars - then team directors and then sponsors. After that it goes to open floor within the "circle".

Owning one may well be a dream, but I bet it's a nightmare too. Like many things, it's probably better to rent it out, experience it, then move on to the next fantasy. I feel the same about Veyron's, jet fighters, supermodels etc etc.....

Mmm, I see what you mean. But if you earn a couple of million quid a day, then spending on an F1 car and all its gubbins and staff is not *that* bad.
IMHO, the FXX project is one of the best "value" ways to get close to F1 as you get all the support you need and the cars moved around to the tracks etc.

I remember an interview with Dave Gimour (Pink Floyd) and he was talking about his off-loading of much of his ostentatious tatt. He said it started out as a desire to own 'A' Ferrari, and then another, and before you know it you need a storage facility, and someone to look after them, and it all gets a bit silly as you are so busy earning the money to pay for all this, you never have time to enjoy it, and the fascination wears off pretty quickly too. He sold all but a couple of his many classic sports cars, giving the money to charity and prompting his kids to start calling him St. Dave. However, not many people know about it, which makes him a bit cooler than the likes of Chris Evans whom did the same a few years back. We all have dreams, ambitions and aspirations, but when you have the chance to live those dreams, a little self control can save a lot of stupidity later. I've always said that even if I were worth multi-millions, I have no need for a big house, as it would still need cleaning. I'd love a selection of cars, but not just for the sake of owning them, I'd have cars I wanted to enjoy, as cars, not ornaments. Wimmin on the other hand I would have as ornaments, and I'd enjoy cleaning those, with my tongue.

my father-in-law taught me a very valuable lesson years ago, early 80's
(he had just taken delivery of his ground up restored Mercedes 300SL Gullwing - a boyhood dream of his)
and it was simply that if you are not careful valuable possessions end up owning you - and not the otherway round

In the Formula Libre races you used to sometimes get someone with an ex F1 car. Some years ago of course but it was certainly a bit of a sledgehammer job on the rest of us!

His foot is still on the (now missing) brake pedal!
As for the Jordan; think if it was me buying that, I'd put some more standardised mechanicals in to get it running, maybe a detuned Cosworth DFV if it'll fit, or a motopower RST V8 (as found in the Radical SR8 and Caterham RST: http://www.mountune.com/Racing/Engines/RST-V8 ). Plus whatever Quaife sequential gerabox that'll fit it. It still wouldn't be cheap, and headach to do but the result would be a very fast usuable track car....just don't crash it!
