Info required for HPI check
What info is required to do an HPI check? I'm selling a car and a potential buyer wants to do his own HPI check, but he has asked for reg number, VIN number, V5 serial number and V5 issue date. I thought only the reg number was required (HPI web site seems to bear this out).
My scam alert is therefore going off - am I right to be suspicious? I've emailed him back saying I don't think he should need all this info and will see what he says.

The reg and VIN to ensure the two match up on your car.
The V5 serial number and issue date, as there were a large number of stolen V5 documents.
I checked two cars recently, and I also asked for the MOT certificate number or V5 numbers, so that I could check the MOT history: http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/interne...ry-Request.jsp
In short, when I was close to buying a car, I needed the reg, VIN and V5 number.
More information her from HPI: http://www.hpicheck.com/hpi_check.html

To complete your check, you will need to provide the vehicle identification number (VIN) as well as the mileage and V5 registration document issue date and serial number within the next 30 days.
