Default Am I being phished?

In the last few weeks a couple of odd things have happened.

1) I keep getting emails from Windows asking me to confirm I've requested to reset my instant messenger password. I have NEVER used windows instant messenger. I haven't clicked on the link.

2) Messages from Facebook asking me to confirm the joining up process. I've never tried to join Face book. I even got a message from them telling me somebody had requested to be my friend, never heard of the guy.

Whats going on?

They are always sending ****e like this out, if you know for a fact that you never use messenger just delete it, same with any other messages.

You can generally tell if its a scam or not by hovering your mouse over a hyperlink within the mail, if you look at the bottom of the window it will tell you were it will take you, it normally has NOTHING to do with the site they are trying to pretend to be

It's even easier than that: if the e-mail contains a link then it's a scam. Real e-mails of this kind just tell you to log on as normal and do what they say.
