The "gift" trick is a way of taking money off people with no fees charged, and no comebacks if the item is ****...

IMHO

That is the biggie. I never realised before, but am sceptical if asked to pay by gift, Id rather take the hit on the charges myself.

There are loads come on here bleating that their "gift" has turned out to be a lemon or even non-existant.

Tough !

P.S. When I buy over S'net I get a phone number ask for an account number to transfer the cash into and then do a deal. Haven't been let down so far, most folk on here are genuine, it's the one or two ******* that spoil it !

And breathe !

I've only bought off ebay using Paypal via a credit card, as the "deal" is with the card issuer, so I will ALWAYS get my money back if things go titz-up.
