Solicitors costs for house purchase?
Hi
Its been a long time since I've bought property and am out of touch with what the legal costs are. Anybody able to give a rough cost of what the solicitor should charge for a straightforward purchase with nothing to sell?
Btw, I'm talking about a high street solicitor as opposed to those fixed price conveyancing over the phone types.
Thanks

Roughly around £700..
Depends on house and individual needs IIRC..
We paid £1200 to buy/sell around 3 years ago..There was no mortgage handling involved on either house..Just straight buy and sell.

All above seem reasonable to me, I praise you for not using a crappy conveyancing factory usually recomended by the estate agent!
Check for add ons when getting quotes, I charge around £600.00 plus vat but there's also £60.00 plus vat indemnity fee, £30 plus vat TT fee and £30.00 plus VAT for postage/copying, etc.
If you are getting a mortgage there's an additional £150.00 plus VAT for acting on behalf of the lender. I quote all this up front, lots don't so make sure you ask and there's no nasty suprises at the end.
Most importantly, go on recommendation from friends and family you trust, not the estate agent, mortgage broker, HIP supplier etc most of whom will suggest someone just because they're getting a kick back. IMHO, it's worth paying more if you're getting first class service

Thanks. The solicitor recommended by a friend charged him circa £1k all in, so that sounds about right.
Chris, I like to deal with real people when it comes to important things like this. I would never consider using one of those conveyancing factories and end up speaking to some spotty school leaver on the phone.
I take it you are a solicitor?

We just paid a bit over £1,300 all in. That did include a couple of extras. Best go for a fixed price deal to make sure they don't charge you for sitting on it.
You get what you pay for if our sellers solictor was anything to go by.
