Bank and credit card information

How long do/should you keep old bank statements and credit card bills???

For as long as you feel necessary. This is a few years for me, laziness more than anything.

I'm currently going through a dispute with Alliance & Leicester . They have been charging me £5 a month for the last 3 1/2 years for overdraft facilities that I don't even have.I had to pay for them to send me statements I had thrown away so I'd say keep them for as long as possible .
