Question HELP: Hotpoint Washer/Dryer WD64, fills with water, when not in use.

as title:

I'm having problems with teh above washer/dryer, it washes fine etc, but if you leave the washer.. say 4hrs you come back to it the drum is part full of water, if you leave it 24hrs+ (door closed) its 3/4 full and it's leaked (the amount of three washing up bowls) though the door seal cus of the force of the water in the drum.

anyone give advice on what it could be.

i've had a repairer have it for two weeks and said there's nothing wrong with it, he tested it and said it fine.
thing is I don't think he's had it just connected to hot/cold pipes to see if it fills up over time, he justs puts it on a wash and says its ok!!
I get it back and it leaks again cus its filling up.

the only way to stop it filling up when not in use is turn the water pipes off that feed the washer!
it happens when power is turn off to the mashine as well as having power to it.

anyone shed some light what it is or how it can be fixed?

There isnt actually anything wrong with the machine, I've had this its called 'backfilling'. Its to do with how the waste pipe is hooked up. IIRC when mine was doing it was because the trap or u bend was all clogged up and the waste water from the rest of the system was backing up into the machine. Google it

Inlet valve not sealing correctly when closed/off. Not sure if they are cleanable, depends if its a sealed unit or not. You have 2, one for hot and one for cold, so first find out which one is leaking - if hot then you can just keep hot turned off and your machine will work fine, you can then remove the inlet valve to repair or replace whilst the washing still gets done. If its the cold one then swap the valves over, then fix/replace.

yep there is, as I moved another washer from one of my other properties to see if it was the waste pipe issue, guess what, not a problem with the other washer.
Also, the flat had been empty since the 11th Jan, no water being used in the sink etc, all water turned off when the tenant moved out. i turned it back on to test the washer.. thats when the problems came. i left the washers water pipes turned on after it had finished its wash cycle, left door open to dry it out.. came back next day to find floor flooed and drum with water. TOOOOOO much water to come just out a waste pipe, it did it twice.. the last time I had the dor closed and still filled up.

so have narrowed it down the the washer.
