Diets again. Someone explain this?
Been dieting about four weeks. Since the weekend, (when I ate roasted lamb and veg, but no potatoes), I've eaten only salads with chicken, prawns etc, fruit for lunch and breakfast and coffee, one sugar. And in five days, lost not one ounce.
Went to the pub to look at a new quiz last night. Before going I cooked my lad's tea, pork chop, sausages, mash, sprouts and gravy. I thought, "To hell with it," and had the same myself.
At the pub I drank three pints of rough cider and when food came out I had a chip butty.
This morning I stepped on the scales with trepidation..........and my weight is DOWN by half a pound
So how can that be?

Cut out the fruit, it full of sugar, swap it for a protein meal of some type. I lost 3.5 stone in 4 months on a protein only diet (with a bit of help from ECA30+)
Half a pound could be down to the scales not being 100% each time you use them.

My tip is to only weigh yourself once a week, that way it's easier to avoid being down-hearted if you don't notice a change over night.
The only way I can get results over night is if I switch to a no food and Protikee replacement shakes only diet, however it's a bit extreme.

Shouldn't weigh yourself everyday as weight can fluctuate quite a bit during the day.
1/2 a pound isn't a lot, when I've bothered to check in the past my weight has changed up / down 3/4 pounds in a day.
Better to do it once a week, at the same time, wearing the same things and ideally having eaten at similar times to give you a better indication of weight loss/gain.

As a rough guide, 1kg of body fat equals 7500 calories, so if you wanted to lose that in a week and you currently eat 2000 calories a day, which you body is stable on (no gain of weight, no loss) then you would need to reduce your calorie intake per day to under half that.
In running terms, that would be about 10 or so miles every day over 7 days (if you kept eating 2000 calories)

I'm leaning towards the dehydration idea.
I always weigh myself without clothes, and the scales are digital, so fairly accurate. If you leave it an hour and get back on, for instance, you get the same weight to within a couple of ounces.

Also weigh yourself after taking a dump
The body does funny things when dieting, somtimes it decides to store, sometimes it doesn't. What you may find is with a low intake diet is the body is storing it, then when you have a big meal it doesn't bother. Thats why diets can be problamatic; the body fights back by storing more energy to counteract the lower intake just incase.
One "trick" (or theory/fad or whatever you want to call it) I've been advised to do is to eat very small portions (not too much sugary stuff, like fruit, bread or snacks) at very regular intevals, like 6 times a day. Obviously drinks (barring water) factor into this. The theory is the body eventually will become more accustomed and realise it doesn't need to store energy between meals. Also I've been told to stay off anything with sweetners ( basically any drink/snack labelled diet or low calorie). The problem with this is managing that routine around a typical lifestyle.

The theory is, when you taste a certain flavour, your body prepares itself to process a paticular subset of nutrients, which they do not contain, but provide taste but not nourishment, so the body goes into craving mode.
Men don't weigh themselves unless it is for medical record purposes FFS!!
Constant weighing is for jessies!! If you feel overweight just eat or drink alcohol less, cut out the obvious cráp, if you eat that to begin with and your own eyes will tell you it is working. Exercise isn't even necessary if you do the above though always beneficial.
Next you'll be telling us your thong doesn't sit right!
Now man up!

I must get help ....
). As you say though, this is the best way to be (the scales being 'precise' that is ....) . As long as they read the same with the same weight on them then they're fine. Just don't weigh yourself at your mum's, for instance, and wonder why you've lost 1/2 stone in an hour ....
And just weigh yourself once a week, at the same time every time. Say just when you get out of bed.

Jeff don't get drawn in to the weightloss syndrome....
My sister is currently on a protein diet, Parp ! BUT I make her cycle, the exercise burns calories and starts to convert fat to muscle.... but as muscle is more dense than fat you weigh the same, but the inches change.
IMHO

On the plus side: Sorbitol (as found in sugar free gum) can cause large weight loss (albeit via diarrhoea
).

You can't convert fat to muscle, it is impossible. Likewise, muscle doesn't turn to fat. It's a misconception from seeing body builders who have massive muscles, suddenly stop, then after a few months just look fat. The reason for this is simply because they haven't reduced there calorie intake as there muscles have started to waste away and so a high calorie intake isn't required to support that mass.
