Default Is it beyond repair?

We have an electric shower and it seems to have decided to break on me.

Water still comes out, only it's freezing cold.

Can really do without this as I can't really afford a new one. Does anyone think it could be fixed?

On your electrical consumer unit, it can trip the MCB or RCD in there, take a look.

There's no pull cord switch, and the unit with the power switch on doesn't have a light on it. It just has an on/off switch.

On the actual shower itself, there are four things written on (power, reduced temp, high and low), at the moment the light comes on the low bit, as well as power. If that's what you mean.

As for your second post, come on this is me, I have no idea what that means.

Had a Gainsborough many years ago, found that the temp started to get colder & colder thus I kept creeping up the temp manually until it packed in. This was due to the element was buggered (unsure of the technical term)

Is the Temp control manual (dial) or digital (buttons)?

It's manual.

This is what I have found, I have over time had to keep turning it up.

A few months back it did this, but only went cold for a few seconds and went back to normal, then it hasn't done that at all until now.

If the water pressure to your shower falls below a predetermined setting, the low warning light will come on, so the electricity to the heater will be cut off to stop it over heating, this can trip the fuse, the electric board in your house, where you can shut the electric off for the house etc

First check would be that imo

Someone quote me if im wrong, but i think they are designed to shut the power to the element off if the temp gets too high.....

Ie, If the water is Cr_ppy (soft i think) where you are the element will start to collect loads of natural minerals and then struggle to warm the water direct, so you then turn the temp up and up, then the element is getting too hot, but the water isnt feeding onto the element so it shuts down. (like putting a towel on a radiator, you cant feel the direct temp)

The electric to the coil will be cut, not the shower itself.

This is my thoughts, but then i dont think they have an internal fuse, do they?? I think they reply on a 40amp fuse which is generally on a Shower fuse spare somewhere outside the bathroom, normally situated on the landing or in some case near the fusebox/consumer unit.

The element could probably be replaced for £20 at a guess, but then if you shower was nstalled when you bought the house and it is fitted 'over' the tiles then id bin it and start over.

Can't beat a mixer shower running of a good Combi/Condensing boiler.

Right, I have checked the fuse box and the fuse hasn't been tripped (it says 'on' like all the rest).

The shower has been up for some years, but when we redecorated the bathroom a couple of years ago, we got that cladding stuff, and it was cut around the unit.

It may be worth adding, when I tried it earlier, it sort of stuttered as if the pressure was a bit funny (I assume), only lasted a few seconds.

Nope, but he can't be expected to know everything.

He does alot of stuff, but showers aren't a strong point.

And we don't have a sparky friend.
