Default Digi (tachograph) card

can anyone tell me how to get one and how much it costs...whats involved?

I think the driver cards are £38.00 and believe you must have the relevant entitlement on your license, you will need to complete a form ST1A The DVLA issue the cards.

You can order the drivers smart card application forms direct from the dvla,

thanks for that mate, is it as straight forward as just ordering one or do i need to go for a test or such

Theres no test. As digital tachographs are being fitted into Land Rovers which tow now, then the 'class entitlement' isnt particularly difficult to achieve either.

I have one and my work got/paid for mine. All i did was fill in a form on my boss's desk

Oh and i went through 4 in one year as the slightest of scratches on the chip will break them. I used to keep mine in my wallet.

Id try to avoid a vehicle with one in, as theyre endless trouble (from a compliance perspective). If I had to then Id borrow a company card...

went through 2 of em in 3mths
they just would'nt download , i kept it in my wallet next to my bank card
I was later told that they are extremelly tempremental and u must not get the chip nxt to another chip as its cause's the card to nacka up
