Default The recommend an iPhone app thread...

Having just got an iPhone thought it would be a good idea for SN to share some of the best apps.

Intersted as to why BBC dont do them (or not that I can find) when I know they do for a Blackberry.

The best apps I've got i.e. the ones I've downloaded and still use daily are

Facebook
E-Bay
IM+ (Instant messenger app for MSN etc with push notifications)
mSecure (secure password storage)
Sky News
WeatherPro (Way better than the built-in weather app)
My O2
Lottery View (check your numbers anywhere)
iFooty
LogMeIn Ignition (remote control to home pc)

I have a few games etc but the list above are apps I use all the time.

Motion X GPS, killer navigation app for anything outdoors.
For TV the usual iPlayer site works a treat or go to TVCatchup iPhone and add to the home screen.

...until the battery goes flat Is there a way to make it turn off the screen to save battery life? I can still see myself having to cart around a separate, dedicated GPS unit if I'm out for more than a couple of hours.

I'd recommend:

RedLaser - scan barcodes of stuff in shops, find out what you could get it for online. Great for DVDs and electricals.
Flixster - see what movies are on, where and when, view trailers & revies
RadioBOX - streaming Internet radio
Labyrinth 2 - beautifully presented version of the classic game

Click the power button on top of the phone, turns off the screen, I have at least one five hour track that left enough power for a couple of phone calls for a retrieve.

eBay
Amazon UK

They are priced individually. I am on contract so I have unlimited browse in my tariff so I download off my phone and the large apps off iTunes. If you go into the iTunes store you can browse all apps as there is a section for it.

Prices vary from Free up to about £80, which is what some of the SatNav apps such as TomTom cost.

If you are worried about the tariff side of things then use iTunes to download the apps on your PC and then simply sync them over to your phone.

If you're at home and have a wifi internet network setup, you can browse via that rather than over your data connection till your new tarrif starts.
An iPhone without some sort of data connection is rubbish
