4x4, rear wheel, front wheel drives ... my observations ...
I'm glad I own a 4x4 as it has been well equiped in the recent snow.
My wife owns a front wheel drive - that has struggled, but got through in the main.
My daughter has a MX5 and has been stuck on the drive for ages, being rear wheel drive it would be madness to risk it.
I also have a MX5 - it's not going anywhere whilst the roads are this bad.
Rear wheel drive has some great benefits in the dry, but the snow seems to have shown an area of weakness?

We have a fwd Honda Accord, it is really good in the snow, there is a hill leaving our estate and lots of RWD and fwd cars seem to get stuck. not a problem
Probably a lot to do with the drivers and thier experience driving on snow and ice TBH.
My quad is RWD, fixed axle, not had a problem, infact a hell of a lot of fun!

My FWD ST220 is a pile of sh*te in the snow. Totally useless! Tyres are a key factor, but nevertheless the lack of an LSD, the torque, etc make it hellish to get traction. My S2000 was better, albiet scarier (and more fun)

i think a lot of the rwd drivers should do what 'we' used to do, lob a 25kg bag of sand in the boot over the rear axle. Used to help no end and ultimately if you get stuck lob some under the rear wheels

my FWD golf (work car) has had a few moments, although in the worst of the weather I used the 4x4. We had an incident going round the islad coming out the village where we lost all traction in the golf and slid sideways into the kerb, no damage but shook up our son.
Sometimes it doesn't matter how good a driver you are you just cannot stop it happening.

I used to own many Rear Wheel Drive cars way back in the day - Capri's were the biggest challenge! Remember, these were sitting on Cross-Ply Tyres Now, THAT's scary!!

It was a MK2 - 2.0GL .... I did yearn for a 2.8i but could never afford one
It was Metallic Roman Bronze, with Cream Vinyl Roof and Cream Cloth Interior ... and it was brilliant - except in the snow!
I had a 3.0 GXL Granada - that was a handful too ..... I very nearly lost my MK2 Cortina in the ice (but I was a kiddie then).

My rear wheel drive Ford Ranger (2WD) has been better than expected in the snow.
The skinny tyres and about 200Kg of timbers I chucked in the back probably helped.

Unless my maths is totally off, that would make you in your mid forties at the time.

My 2WD hilux rear wheel drive has been bl00dy awful in the snow. Have been pushed out 5-6 times until I put a pallet of bricks in the back. Amazing what a bit of weight can do
not had any trouble since.

No worries, a mod will be along to lock it soon for attention seeking and trolling.
Pete, I love your work, but maybe stop re-posting the same thread in a thinly veiled new guise each time
