Slumdog Millionaire
Watching it now - was highly rated when it came out ..... I'm struggling to see why it was so highly rated?

never seen this film even though i have it on DVD. I just can't get into the mindset to be bothered to watch it. I hate Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and if i'm honest i'm not too keen on Indians either, so its just been sitting on the sidelines until i one day get seriously bored.

"The Kite Runner" is a fantastic film; one of my favourite fims forever. "Slumdog Millionaire" and "The Kite Runner" are two different stories with different dynamics, if you look at them carefully LOL "The Kite Runner" is deeply saddening, while Slumdog ends up in "Jai Ho" jolly. I don't find them comparable.
Both good films.
Some people ask me if it is really like that in India. Mostly the ones, who found the initial slums shots too depressing, and walked out of cinema hall. I say to them- " Yes. You did the best thing walking out. Take it or leave it, well done, take care etc. etc."

Great film. Came out as I was out there working for an extended period. I felt that it potrayed India exactly, both the poverty and the hope and aspirations of an up coming nation. One of our India offices, a modern 21st century office that wouldn't be out of place in London, was right next to a building site one side (with all the hopes that building new riches brings) and a slum the other. The tea boy exists in all businesses, I understand, though they never got my tea right (far too sugary and milky).
The film is actually more of a love story, with the Millionaire part being just one part of the story - it's not a film of "Who wants to be...". I think some parts are uncomfortable viewing but that's what makes it even better as a film - there is hope in all situations.

I had anticipated a Bollywood type film with singing and dancing breaking out all over the show - you'll be pleased to know this only happens at the end credits!
Its worth a try, I was expecting the worst and got pleasantly surprised.

Kevin McCloud's programme 'Slumming It' might be interesting - tonight at 9 on Channel 4 and second part at 8 on Friday. Same Mumbai slum as in the film.

I saw it on dvd with the Mrs when it came out and was not expecting much but did find it an astonishing film. We didn't watch it last night as the plight of the slum kids is a bit of a downer and didn't want to be sitting there thinking of those poor little devils all evening.

Believe me or not, I thought about you yesterday, and here you are!
Yeah, good film, no doubt. It brought back so many memories to me. Then, this early morning, my family in India wished me "Happy Makar Sankranti" by a text message. Sorted
Hope you are well.

I watched it back on Sky Box Office due to some freebie HD Party Promotion they were doing. I cant say I was that fussed about watching it as also thought it would be usual bollywood rubbish but the other choice was the Ashes Cricket Live lol so no choice really - Slumdog!
Myself & my girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent & gripping story.
Deffo one Id recommend anyone to watch.
