FAC251 - The Factory
For any of you who can remember the Hacienda in Manchester when it was a gigging venue and before it became a nightclub then this may be of interest.
Peter Hook has teamed up with the original designer of the Hac (Ben Kelly) and converted the now defunct Factiry Records head office into a gigging venue called FAC 251 - The Factory.
I think I will be paying it a visit for old times sake:
>> FAC251: Factory HQ Opens January 2010 <<
Love the tagline: Built by Tony Wilson. Designed by Ben Kelly. Paid for by New Order. Broken by The Happy Mondays

I just read Peter Hooks biography, very interesting, I only ever went to the Hacienda once, 1986 aged 15/16 with a mate from school who was friendly with New Order as he worked in a record shop they frequented, I was bladdered, I just remember being sat next to a huge speaker with "White Lines" blasting out wanting my bed. Another mate from school ended upas the bar manager there, gets a few mentions in the book.

Never got my way up North, planned a trip to the Hac when I was at school but some idiots with Uzis ruined it for everyone. Most unexpected for a snotty nosed lad from Plymouth!
Ill have to make do with the book. Is making for a good read, as I expected.

Never met him myself but Barney was going out with my mates sister, imagine being a big New Order fan, and looking up and seeing him stood at the door, we were in the middle of a teenage party and he was picking her up for the evening, I lost the power of speech, once I realised. Saw him again a few years later in a BMW Z1 (the one with the doors in the sills) and I was in my MK1 Golf and had a nice blast up the A34 with him.

Might have to dig out Unknown Pleasures, Closer or Still to relive those days.
Sad I know , but up until Blue Monday being released (Fact 73) I knew most of the Factory catalogue numbers.
Fact 51 was the Haciendas original catalogue number, 251 seems apt for the replacement.

I read Hooky's book as well, it was an eye opener on many levels, especially the gang side. Clubbing was never my scene, but I'm a big NO and JD fan, so I Hooky's book very enjoyable.
I thought Hooky was a bit of a petrolhead, but reading his comments about the Integrale made me think otherwise.

I used to go to the Hacienda most weeks...
Was a great venue in its day before the drugs/shootings/stabbings ruined everything and he police had no choice but to shut it down..
Happy days
