Default Aircraft near miss?

I fly a lot, at least 6 times a month, I was on a flight from Paris CDG to Munich...

I'm still someone who looks out of the window and admires the view, I woke up after reaching cruise altitude (as usual) and notice some vapour trails in the sky; aircraft going in the same direction I think, me trying to see how close it is.

All of a sudden, the vapour trails appear to be changing direction, 90 degrees to our aircraft and a small dot on the horizon approaching us; two seconds later this plane whips by at (I'd consider 500 mph+) It seemed a bit closer than 1km above us and directly overhead.

First time I'd seen this, is this normal?

Nik

PS I ducked

When you are in the hold at a busy airfield its a bit of a disturbing sight when you first come out of cloud and realise how close the other aircraft actually look.

Try JFK early evening. It makes M25 at rush hour seem quiet!

Glad we never went in there then. Dulles wasn't exactly a walk in the park at times.
