Default Very interesting climate change programme

On BBC 2 last night. Anyone see it?

Basically taking an overview of what scientists have been saying about changes/trends over the last 50 years.

In the fifties and sixties the big concern was the forthcoming ice age and there were certainly reasons to believe this. But then things changed and the warming debate was in its infancy. There was one chap who made it his life's work to measure CO2 levels accurately and levels did rise inexorably.

The finger pointed at CO2, including man made stuff, mostly from massive amounts of coal being burnt. But CO2 seemed to be held partially responsible for both cooling (blocking out sun) and warming (absorbing and releasing heat) so I was a bit confused by this.

The message coming from the programme was that the science at the time was not "bad" and scientists were acting in good faith, it's just that things worked out differently.

There may be a lesson here but I am not sure what that is

But I would invest a few bob on clean coal technology.

Sadly I dont see any clear cut irrefutable evidence for man made climate change. I agree the climate is changing, but then then the Romans had vinyards at Hadrians wall and Greenland was just that, very fertile. So the earth has been warm before, and cold.

But we should all look after what we have.

I think the problem is that the world goverments are laying the blame of climate change squarely at the feet of the masses.

We wanted cars, TVs, overseas holidays, McDonalds and so its clearly our fault that big business had to knacker the world in order to provide these things for us.

The problem is that although we are aware that these things aren't good for our planet, we are also becoming more and more aware that its the planet itself that is changing.

There is mention of a "wobble" or precession that has a 26,000 year cycle. This wobble of a few degress causes some places to warm and others to cool.

There is also the solar cycle every 11 years which supposedly reaches its peak in 2012 (The end of the Mayan calender - not the end of the world BTW. As they didn't have god or jesus to set their watches/calender by they used something far more sensible - the stars)

Its like the goverment think the planet has and always will be exactly the same and its us that is messing it up so gosh darn it cough up to pay for it. This thinking is complete cobblers and the governments problems is that we are now more aware that its not just us.

You have to admit it's a damn good reason to raise taxes, and sadly most people (well all of us really) just bend over and take it.

Watched the BBC this morning with Sh*t Brown on. One bloke they interviewed was on about ways to combat it: Air-fuel Tax, Shipping Fuel Tax, this Tax, that Tax, the other Tax..........why haven't the masses twigged yet?

It's like if you disagree, you're treated like hetics were in the middle ages........."Burn him!"

Exactly alcazar, if they genuinely wanted us to go green they'd be offering tax relief on eco-friendly products to balance it out, but so far it's all stick and no carrot.

If you did get the carrot, it would no doubt be classed as a benefit in kind and you'd have to pay tax on it anyway.

Maybe, but if you kept it until death it wouldn't be liable for IHT as it benefits from Agricultural Property Relief.

Was reading an article in the Express yesterday. some interesting points.

The whole "Climate Change is happening, the planet is going to explode" theory (exaggerated) is based on just 60 scientist, instead of the usual 4000 for something to be scientifically proven.

Man has contributed 0.00002% of Co2 levels.

More Co2 is actually good for crop production.

We have had far higher levels of Co2 in the planets history than we do now. Why wasn't the planet destroyed before, and how come species are millions of years old?

Water vapour and cloud cover effect the earths temperature more than any Co2 levels.

Many many more facts I can't remember off hand, but reading them all, you do come to the conclusion that this is a knee jerk reaction to something that has been going on for millions of years, and will continue to go on more Billions of years to come. Fact is mother nature controls everything. We cannot change the planet.

And also, this is a great excuse for government to increase revenue through TAX by stating we are fighting climate change. You ain't, and can't.

It also stated that in the UK, we have the largest percentage of Climate change sceptics per population, yet the UK government is the biggest supporter of Climate change on the planet.
