Wink How long can a decent Claret be stored for ?

As the title really. I can't give you the vintage name at the moment but the Claret is around 25 yrs old. It was a good quality one when bought, not a supermarket bogof !
However I have been told that Claret will only keep for a maximum of 15 yrs and then it goes off, loses flavour etc, is this correct. The wine has been stored correctly, in a rack.

Cheers and thanks.

Open it up and check it. If it's ok, you can just bung the cork back in.

Depends entirely on what the wine is, claret includes pomerol, st julien, margaux, and Pauillac. Some can last for a long time others not depending on the maker and the vintage.

Wink

Thanks everyone for the replies, I'll try to get more precise details of the wine and then ask again.

Cheers

What Luan said. Also a good wine that can last 40 years and still be at its peak will have to be stored at optimum conditions - in the dark at the right constant temperature with the right humidity.

And the cork has to survive as well as if it is corked it will be vile. You will be able to tell as soon as you open the bottle - you won't need to taste it.
