Ski Resorts with decent nightlife?!
Anyone suggest any?
Going to be skiing over new year, and one of my mates has suggested either Val Thorens or Courchevel. From what I've read Val Thorens is probably the more lively of the two, but it's always hard to tell without having been there.
I've not been to many of the resorts in the Alps, other than Verbier and Zermatt and I wouldn't say either of those were that lively - Verbier maybe a little pricey so tends to be more families etc.
Anyone got any suggestions?!

Yes, another vote for St Anton - party central. Last time I went I don't think I hit the slopes until after lunch, and that was just to help sober up before the KK, Mooserwirt and Kandahar into the small hours...
Funky Chicken also very good fun - good ski videos playing and frozen cocktails, and Bar Cuba also OK for a quieter drink.
Take lots of cash though - it's damn expensive!

Val Thorens, full of Dutch people larging it.
Courcheval, too preppy etc
St Anton, pricey but great for the nightlife, best venue in Europe IMHO
Val d'Isere, got a lot going for it, posh young ladies.. could be worse
Chamonix, expensive, lots of bars, but need to be in the know about the local scene - has a strip bar (apparently )

Mayerhofen looked half decent.....although I went there in the summer.
To be honest, I'm lucky to stay up still past 10pm if I've been skiing all day.

If you want party and lots of pliant birds then Sauze D'Oulx is the Magalluf of the Alps.
Verbier has got serious totty but serious competition from the rich and famous. Deux Alps used to be pretty good.

We got drinking at the bar on the bottom by the gondola one night, and by 9pm we all decided it was time to go back and get out of these ski boots, the last bus had been and gone so we all had to trudge back about a mile in the snow to our residence with all our stuff with us, must of looked a right sight.

If your thinking 3 valleys go to Meribel. Easily the best for a party and best positioned to cover the whole 3 valleys.
Val D'isere is good for the lash but quite clicky.

Depends if snow or apres ski is top priority. Val Thorens is europe's highest resort so usually has snow even when none of the rest of the 3 valleys hasn't. Tignes Val Claret/le lac not bad on both fronts and has glaciers - also part of the espace killy so = cheap way to ski Val d isere - Posh totty, posh prices.
Austria always gets thumbs up for apres ski but the resorts are generally lower than France and so are usually less snow sure

which is the portes du soleils - quite high so good skiing even in April (in T-Shirts)
pretty chilled n/life rather than raving - not too many english and certainly not "Ibiza on Ice"

Yet another vote for St Anton. Usually rated top for nightlife in the Alps.
Val D'Isere wasn't bad either.
Chamonix was OK for night life, but for skiing I didn't rate it. On average spent 45 mins each morning waiting for the bus to the slopes. Only worth going if you want to do the Valley Blanche.

Personally I rate Ischgl, Stanton and Verbier in that order. The first two are more germanic of course and a lot of Brits will probably have some probs with some of the music that goes along with that. The Paznauner Thaya in Ischgl is just sublime, nestled in a bowl surrounded by picturesque peaks. They play pumping dance music from midday onwards. Its a bit of a ski down though! Then the Elizabeth bar is a great next stop with leggy dancing girls on the bar. There are strip clubs too if you like that sort of thing.
Pas de la Casa is a package holiday hellhole from I remember of it.
