Default EU Court gets something right!

"A European court has banned crucifixes in Italian classrooms as they are a 'breach of the religious rights of children'.
Vatican officials were said to be 'furious' after the European Court of Human Rights made its landmark ruling today."

Full article here:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worl...-children.html

Extra bonus:
"Italy has been in the throes of national debate on how to deal with a growing population of immigrants, mostly Muslims, and the court sentence is likely to become another battle cry for the centre-right government's policy to restrict newcomers."

"There has been outrage in the past after it emerged some Italian schools had dropped Nativity plays and Easter plays so as not offend Muslim pupils and other religions."

Thumbs down

How is that 'getting things right?'

It's just more banning things and removals of freedom that lead to divisions.

That's getting thing wrong IMO

Good God, I'm in agreement with you

I wonder if the Mail would have to order extra bile if the EU court had made the same ruling on the UK...

How can it be right to ban a Christian symbol in a Christian country?

Supine surrender to such imagined requirements is equivalent to appeasement and that never did any good!

yea its a bit ironic that the cross has been banned so not too offend the incommers, but i dare say the incommers (Muslims AFAIK) will be building mosques to do their bit for their god?

I've just finished reading "The God Delusion" which makes the point that any form of religious indoctrination of children is tantamount to child abuse, a sentiment I agree with completely.

As a catholic albeit non practising any more, I always felt that my religious upbringing has instilled some decent values alongside a good home environment. I would suggest a general sweeping across the board slating all religions and the way they are portrayed to children is impossible.

It will boil down to, some people are good at heart and some are not. Regardless of race and religion.

What amazes me is that this guy seems to have been convinced by reading a book that all religion is child abuse. And he has the gall to bemoan indoctrination.

hey guys, look at it this way. One day you will die and find out one way or another whether a true religion was right or not. If it is right and you havent done anything in your life in acknowledgment to it then you are in trouble and if its wrong then your soul can float off into space eternally travelling happy in the thought that all this around us now was a mistake or came about by chance.

The European Commission Representation and the European Parliament Office would like to clarify that the recent judgement on the removal of crucifixes from schools in Italy did not come from the European Union or any of its institutions.

Further to furore which the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) provoked in the local press, it is pertinent to make a clear distinction that the court which gave this ruling is not the court of the European Union but of the Council of Europe.

The Council of Europe, brings together 47 nations, a good number of which are not EU Member States. The ECHR is not to be confused with the Luxembourg-based European Court of Justice, the remit of which is the interpretation and application of EU law.

Ive gotta say but that has to be the most misguided and stupidest quote ive ever heard. Really shows ignorance, no offence! Having personaly studied a range of things it seems mr hicks hasnt got a clue about how the Christian religion works quite obviously.

If there was a ‘second coming’ of Jesus Christ you can be reasonably certain the first group of people to reject him would be the Catholic Church

When it comes to it, we are all entitled to follow our own beliefs and to follow what our consciences are telling us without being hassled by those who think differently.
