Default Anyone here growing peppers?

I have got loads of different pepper plants in an unheated greenhouse and so far just the odd one has ripened. Can i leave then indefinitely in the g/h to ripen or will the colder weather kill them off. Is it sunlight they need or heat?

The plants are starting to lose the odd leaf, they are starting to yellow and fall off.

They're not going to ripen any more, I'd take them off now.

I have about 20 pepper and chille plants

I didn't know whether to bring them into my conservatory, its cold in there but not as cold as the g/h

Everywhere i looked suggests that they will ripen eventually but it doesn't mention what happens when the temps drop.

Did they ripen outside first or where they still green?

I dont understand why just the odd one has ripened on each plant. I have some patio sizzle chillies, small ones but 95% are still yellow. All my Mexican chillies are still not ready and i have looked forward to them all year. I tried to get early maturing varieties but no luck. How did you dry yours?

I am in two minds what to do, leave them for a bit or bring them in. I still have loads of dahlias quite happy in the garden and my red grapes are now ready and really nice, next year i am going to make some wine with them

The thing with peppers is that they take a long while between flowering and fruiting so they miss the best of the sun to ripen them.

Mine are still ripening nicely in our greenhouse. Biggest peppers I've ever seen... Masses of chillis as well. Do it keep it shut up all day now with just a small vent open so still quite warm in there.

Stop watering them, stress should bring on the ripening. I have loads now, grown outside, neglect for a week sorted them out.

Mine are huge too. If i leave the vents shut the g/h fills up with mosquitoes and i cant go in there. I leave the door open a tiny bit just to stop the air from going stale but dont allow a draught. I am in the south east, where are you?

Do you know what peppers you have?

I do, Harpenden, where are you?

When i came back from holiday, bitten to death by mozzies i went into the g/h and it was full of them. Today there are none but on Saturday when it was sunny there were loads. Where do they go on cold days?

I still have toms growing in my carport, cherry and moneymaker. I still had cucumbers until the end of September but the mildew got them in the end, same with my melons. I still got about 3 melons per plant and i had about 8 plants, small but tasty

I'm South East too. Don't know what type they are other than Woolies specials. Grew some brown ones as well which taste a bit like apples...

Got some melons too. First year with a greenhouse so quite chuffed

I have some Bell yellow are red peppers and god knows what else, but everything is maturing very slowly.

If someone posts from Scotland and says that they have peppers that are ripe then they are lying.

I think the way to go is to get your plants started off very early with the same set ups you would use for growing cannabis but the cost does not outweigh the end result, unless you use your neighbours electricity.
