My youngest has worked part-time since the age of 16, while in education. He continues to do so while at uni.

We've found a P45 from his work at Wickes up to summer 2008, worth £115, then he worked for another company who swear they sent him a P45, but he never got it. They say they can't send another.

He DOES, however, have the three payslips from that job, detailing how much tax he paid.

Will he still be able to claim that tax back? it's only £70 odd, but better in the lad's pocket than Lying Labour's

Presume he gets paid weekly? If he earned under the lower tax threshold one week he would have got it back in his pay packet.

Or if not and he was out of work check his tax code isnt xxxL W1/M1. If there is no mention of W1/M1 the tax would have sorted itself out on his forst pay packet in the new job

Lastly if none of the above apply, go to HMRC.gov.uk, find the tax office number his P45 is assigned to and give them a ring. If he has earnt under is personal allowance he will get it back, but the HMRC wont do anything until the end of the tax year if he doesnt work again from now until then

Thanks for that. He is looking to reclaim tax from year ended April 2009. He will reclaim for 2009-10 next year, no way will he earn enough to go over.

They can't reissue the P45 but they could send a letter detailing the date he left, his gross pay and contributions.
