Exclamation Can you report someone for driving like a prat?

Hi All,

What's the position if you witness some truly awful driving e.g. cutting people up, blocking an overtaking manouver, tailgaiting, trying to bully people out of the way, (generally driving like a loon in a people carrier).

Witnessed such a thing myself today and it got me so annoyed that I gave chase (admitedly not the smartest thing to do - don't worry had no intention of trying to get past him) so I could get the idiot's reg number. This I managed to do!

So now I have that, what can I do with it? I know that if the police didnt witness the conduct there isn't anything they can do with respect to a prosecution, but would they at least send the regisitered keeper of the vehicle a letter?

Any advice appreciated.

You won`t get anywhere, i tried reporting Fernandon Alonso for bullying and tailgating Jenson Button but they havn`t bothered to reply back, they keep it in house in my opinion.

You gave chase, what are you some sort of plastic copper.

If you went to the Police they would do nothing, no accident, no one hurt, etc.

They may ask you to look around the local Asda car park for cars with no road tax if your that keen.

You should have filmed it with your phone camera.
(prolly not the best idea, but if it was that bad, then yes)

Yes mate, you can report it if you want.

You have section 2 and 3 of the Road Traffic Act which covers dangerous and careless driving.
Not sure where you are but up here in Scotland you need corroboration (another witness) to make something stick. You didn't mention if you were alone.
You never know, someone else might have reported it and you would back them up.

Realistically, if it was just you, the police 'could' find out who the owner of the car was etc but if they denied all knowledge, nothing could be done and therefore if you were the only witness, it might not be looked into etc.

I've been to speak to drivers after only one witness just so they know that someone had seen then and they were lucky there hadn't been anymore witnesses etc etc.

LOL, Yeah I must have had my SN moderator hat on at the time.

It was a bit of a silly thing to do to be honest, as it probably made me look like every bit as much of a prat as the bloke concerned. Not a proud moment for me!

He's persistent bad and thoughtless driving just made me bloody angry is all.

I was with a passenger at the time, he was on his own.

PS I've got my eye on you Yoza

I wouldn't bother TBH. Nothing will happen from just your report and no damages, witnesses etc.
The other thing is maybe think about why he was driving like that?? maybe he was just a tw*t or maybe there was some other reason? family emergency etc. It's no excuse but theres nothing we can really do unfortunately. Just hope you don't see the same pillock again

Could have been anything, couldnt it.

From a football manager needing a p1ss, to an armed robber making his getaway.

Imagine the latter and you caught him up...

" Hey bo77ocks, stop driving like a **** ! "

BOOM.......... " See you later. "

That would be it, the end of my favorite Mod.

I had a off duty plod report me for supposed 'dangerous/without due care' which i still have no idea about

Got a letter from the local station informing me of said report including a copy of his statment, the last paragraph read some thing like, 'no action will be taken re this matter',

So i think your chances are slim to non existent, shame

Open to abuse, big time.

Say a group of people dont like you, the all say the same ****, driving here and there like a loonie, you get it in the neck.

Then they do it again, and again.....

He caught me at the next tee-junction as there was traffic on the major road (he was going the other direction to me but if he wasn't I didn't want to be stuck behind him for another 10 miles - you take your overtakes when you can!) and pointed his finger at me. Wound down the window and he said he would report me to the police. Anyhow, heard nowt from them so I suppose he either did and they said 'nowt we can do' or he failed to follow up his threat.

My point? *IF* he did report me I heard nothing so I believe they would just ignore your complaint. Just get on with it ....

Is annoying sometimes when you got a straight stretch of road and some **** in front won't get up to atleast a decent speed.Yesterday had this came from a 40 to 50 limit some ford ka driver was holding up a que of traffic becuse they didn't want to go more than 20mph in a 50.Was perfect straight road to overtake but obviously you have to give way to traffic coming other way,and it was quite a long line to even get anywhere near the front to safely overtake..Another that get's my back up now is when when certain don't turn correctly onto a road,so you could be waiting at a give way line, and some **** cuts the turning and comes right across the front of yer vehicle, also drivers who stop at roundabouts when nothing to giveway too ohh the joys of driving....

You can complete a dangerous driving form if you had the other cars reg. It could ultimatley lead you to having to face the driver in court but realistically it wouldn't get anywhere past the uselessness that is the CPS
Phone Crimestoppers annonomously saying that the driver of that car is reguarly seen driving dangerously

Flip purple with a slight purlescent red overtone..wicked

You might see the 'princess on board' sticker in the back as they are very precious cargo unless I need to drive very fast

Take the index, Go to the front counter of the police station and they will talk you through the process.
Its hard to make it stick but if you have other witnesses then you have a chance. Also if the driving is really bad and someone else un connected to you complains you might be in luck.

Be prepared for it not to go anywhere, You have to remember that if they could hand out fines on individual reports the system would get mis used.
There is a procedure, and you can do it!
