US President Barack Obama Awarded Nobel Peace Prize For 2009 | World News | Sky News
"... he Norwegian Nobel Committee praised "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples". The first African American to hold the country's highest office, Obama has called for disarmament and worked to restart the stalled Middle East peace process since taking office in January.
The committee said: "Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future.
"His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population." ..."
As I said, just words ...

There has definatly been progress in the world with peace talks etc since he came to power, however the same could be said for Brown too (yeah I said it!!! Lol)
He seems to carry influence and the power of persuasion in his speeches, but I'm still a little unconvinced to say the least.
Still, I don't even know what it actually means or how its decided so what do I know lol

When no one gets all 6 numbers, the lottery dont pay out.... I agree with what you say, there for... no winner this year would have been the better option maybe.

I don't think his acomplishments in the last 9 months equate to the lifetime's work of Mother Theresa of Calcutta for example.
There must be someone else out there on this planet who has done more for peace than Obama. What about the heads of state of all those countries who are not ostensibly fighting 2 foreign wars as well as a multitude of clandestine ones?
At this rate Robert Mugabe or, worse still, Joey Barton will win it next year!

When considering his accomplishments over the last 9 months, please remember that voting for this award ended just 12 days into his presidency

Personally, I think its a bit ironic that President Obama is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on the same day as he launches a missile attack on The Clangers and Soup Dragon.

Im loving some of the comments on my friends Facebook status about this...
And the factual part, as above....
I don't think anyone in history has been more deserving. Barack Obama is the only man with the guts to stand up to the moon and put it in its place. The entire world is a much safer, more peaceful place since we bombed the moon yesterday.
Nominations for the prize had to be postmarked by February 1 -- only 12 days after Obama took office. The committee sent out its solicitation for nominations last September -- two months before Obama was elected president.

I once suggested that Simon Tailor and Andrew Devlin should stop fighting in the playground in 1982, so when do I get a Nobel Peace Prize

Expect your credit history to disappear, paedo images to appear on your 'pooter and be followed by black cars before you inexplicably disappear.

He is the messiah, the second coming! The saviour! Well, he will save the US, then the world from catastrophic climate change, save wabbits and pwuppies from dwowning..boo hoo hoo, stop war (HA HA HA HA), introduce healthcare for all (Americans), create jobs (While "crap and triade" exports jobs to China and India), it's symbolic. Which reminds me the scene from the Life of Brian....

I think I'm in the running for next years prize seeing as I didn't punch the drunken Yank that stood on my toe and knocked my drink from my hand last night
