Web site copywrite and 'ownership' question ? (not Scoobynet)
I am Treasure for a national specialist hobby/interest club. We have a website that was set up a few years back by a then member. The club pay all the web fees etc. Said person fell out with club and did not pay membership fees so was taken off the membership list and name removed from the website info/contact page. This member says that they have copywrite as they set up the website originally and if name is not reinstated on web pages then they will tell the web hosting company to shut it down.
Questions.
What rights does the originator /copywrite holder have over a website according to UK law ? Person no longer runs the site or has anything to do with it now.
Bit of a muddle I know but any info' would be helpful.
Cheers

what proof would they have if they contaced the web hoster to shut it down?
can you not get your own website address and transfer the current website over to it and email all the member sof the change of website?
You see this type of thing a lot with .co.uk to .com or .net ............etc.
do it sooner rather than later before 'he/she' can shut the (their) site down, if it is classed as theirs!

We are looking into a change and even a totally new design but don't want to be rushed into it. Also hate being blackmailed !
Thanks for the response.

No, web site and design was done FOC by then member who looked after the site for awhile. They then gave up on it, someone else took it all over, new information on pages etc new password for webmaster and the club pays all the domain/internet fees. The domain name is registered to the club. This person did the initial design and setup.
As I understand things this person has no authority to close the site down ?
Sorry to be a bit vague but I am treading carefully so to speak.

Anyways with all things legal tell him to take you to court or get an injuction against the hosting company. I doubt he can afford to do anything!
