is this not an unnecessary expense? you have already stated in another thread that you have no money. pets cost money, food, vets, the cost of buying one in the first place.

Our german shepherd has specific food requirements. GSD's are notorious for having a very sensitive stomach..so you just cant feed them any old cack..
On food alone ours cost just short of £80 a month..
So if your skint, maybe a GSD isnt for you..
What dogs have you owned and trained previously ?

I have to agree with Big sinky, how can you say you are skint on one hand and then buy an expensive dog with high maintenance costs?
I understand its something you may really want but you are only 22 and have your whole life yet to buy one

I wanted my own dog since the age of 24 when my parents Labrador died and who i'd grown up with since the age of 10. I didn't get one until this year just before I turned 36. The cost and commitment was something I had to wait to be able to give. Also the biggest realisation for me was that having your own is nothing like when you grew up with one as a kid. My Lab is more demanding than my kids are.
The cost of mine is £40 a month for food (Royal Canin) and £16 a month pet insurance. However she has had 3 ear infections and 1 eye infection in the 6 months we have had her so far and the insurance has an excess like any insurance so you still have a lot to pay out for when your dog keeps picking up infections. Then you have the cost of toys, a crate, training courses etc and also the cost of the damage they do to your house whilst growing up.
Having a dog and certainly if you have it from a puppy is hardwork, costs a bomb and can be quite stressful at times.

the dog breeders in northern ireland are a pretty close knit community. my mum who has bred and showed miniature and standard poodles for 35 years, as well as judged Utility and Working Groups, knows the vast majority of well known breeders over here. anyways some GSDs suffer from hip displacia which is another expense (v expensive in fact) condition. another thing you may want to consider bearing in mind your financial situation.
