Question

This should probably be in Non-Subaru, but this forum needs something to get its teeth into and this may be it:-

Tracy Housel is about to be executed at midnight UK time for the Rape and Murder of a woman in 1985 - he has admitted to carrying out the crime.

Personally I find all the efforts to spare his life as an insult to me and to justice ..... Tony Blair has even written a letter to the governor asking for his life to be spared!!! This makes me madder than hell .... he should die, why should he be offered life when he didnt offer his victim dignity OR life??

Dont know if I am in the minority here, would like to hear others views - In my book he should have been executed years ago - he has had 17 years more life than his victim.

I will willingly kill the b4stard myself!!!

Pete

Sorry moderators if you feel you need to move this - but I wanted the widest audience before the incident actually happens at midnight.

So you believe in an eye for an eye do you? I have to disagree hear. Sorry. It is not our place to judge thats Gods job. Being keep locked up waiting to die for, was it 17years? and not knowing when, is totally wrong.

Nope, you must be joking, i would lock him up for life and i mean for life. Life today means about 15-25 years.

ok valid point keeping him waiting for 15 year is a bit off but look at it this way what if that girl was your daughter/sister how would you feel?

What if he was let free and he went out and did it again which most rapist do!! What if the next time it was your daughter/sister etc....

I know that and eye for an eye "isn't right" but in some cases what else do you do? Where do you draw the line, how many people have to suffer for one person?

I'm probaby going to get slated for this but.....like you all say everyone has their own veiws!!

rant over....for now

Ok, Scrappy - thats sorted that out!!

I respect your view - but what happens if there is no God??

I support helping God in taking these people into his midst and he can deal with them - Yes? We are just sending them to him?

The reason TB wrote a letter is not about innocence/guilt,thats for a court to decide, its because the accused is/was a uk citizen and therefore as a sort of member of the EU is entitled to have his punishment in accordance with European morals and not US ones.

Basically the stance of the EU is no to capital punishment, therefore TB is just trying to apply that in this case.

I am not going to get into a full debate about whether God does/doesnt exist, There are enough signs around us to prove that and the amount of reliable evidence to back it up in the form of eyewitness testimony when he came to earth is more than enough prove. (refer to time magazine article recently)In response to my daughter etc Of course i would feel bitter anger toward him but by us sentencing him to death means we are no better than him.

I have great difficulty in the 'turn-the-other-cheek' idea, Scrappy.

Lets assume God DOES exsist, we are just sending these people to him. NOT early either - as you believe that GOD knows EVERYTHING - so these people arrive EXACTLY on time!!

If it was my wife/sister/mother/daughter I would kill him myself and happily go to hell with him

Sorry m8. This thing about him being a British citizen and should be subjected to our standards of justice is a non starter. You abide by the laws of the country you are in. Imagine somebody coming into your home and stubbing **** out on the carpet. Your arguement says that is ok if thats what he does in his own house!

I believe it is wrong to keeep somebody locked up not knowing whether they will live or die for 17 years. I personally am notin favour of anybody being executed, even if it was for a crime against my family. Why? Because I am not prepared to support something that could and does lead to the death of people who are innocent. Imagine that its your brother who is about to die and that you know he is innocent but the justice system hasn't allowed you to prove it. THIS DOES HAPPEN.

I dont need to assume anything PS. I know. Thats the difference between us. If you knew what awaited you on the other side mate you wouldnt happily go to hell at all. Quite the opposite. Now look you have drawn me in :-)
The problem is people just think after we die we turn into some sort of energy or matter and float away happily. Like it or not there is a heaven or hell and one day we will all have to face it, and for some it will be a very happy moment and for others a nightmare that lasts for ever.

I dont mean to scare but thats the truth.

I am very aware of the views of christians - my father and his father were preachers. All my family are christians - I have had a lifetime it.

My point remains that we are not doing anything wrong in sending them to god - he can deal with them - and as he knows everything he will be expecting them, should be all ok then?

Cool

I have to agree with you Pete! How hard was THAT!?
Shame they can't make the scumbag suffer a bit first though, say for instance, oh, I dunno... how about cutting his plums off with a rusty hacksaw?

Our countries laws and many others including the U.S. are all based on the Bible. When we go to court they ask us to sware on the Bible, Which is wrong for starters, then they go and kill someone when it explicitly states, 'Thoult shalt not kill'. What does that say about the state of the system then. ????????

I dont believe in the death penalty on principal.

the state he is being executed in has the 2nd worst record of killing inocent people (that has been proven inocent later) of the entire USA.

And my oposition has nothing to do with GOD, i am an athiest.

Just putting myself in the situation where i could be arrested, tried, found guilty and executed when i was inocent. End of debate for me, it doesnt matter what crime or even if he confessed (which incidentally he did, the fact they were proding him with electric cattle prods in the interview (proven) and the fact he was a brain damaged individual with 3 seperate major head injuries in his childhood making him very low IQ is besides the point)

Nothing is ever as simple as it looks. I dont fancy being executed inocently so i have no option but to opose the death penalty on principle.

Is talking of god etc not taking it a tad far.. I'm not dissing your beliefs, you're entitled to believe what you like. The fact of the matter is he admits to killing someone in a state where this is punishable by death, who are we to argue?
